You should see it, and ignore my comments while you watch it!

Re: 1925 and 1943
I also prefer Lon Chaney's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA over all others. And I'll also defend the version with Claude Rains.
The one thing those 2 movies have that later versions don't is an emphasis on the Phantom himself. He's the title character and yet later movie versions and the musical make him so dull. They emphasize Christine more than the title character and more is poured into her characterization than anyone.
By the way, there's also a version from the early 1960s starring Herbert Lom, but I haven't caught it yet.
For those of you who haven't seen the silent version of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA on the big screen, I highly recommend seeing it with the Alloy Orchestra playing, if they ever come to your town.

Re: 1925 and 1943
Wow that's amazing! I had no clue that there were so many different versions of it. As for the 1925 & 1943 versions, I liked seeing them. They weren't exactly exciting being as old as they are but that was what got me interested in POTO. I began looking for differences in each story I heard and there did seem to be quite a few.

That's something I've done, also. I do enjoy watching each version of the story, for different reasons.

I LOVE the 1925 version! Nuff said lol
I have yet to see the 1943, in fact that one and the 1998 one are the only one's I haven't seen.
As for the 1962 version, seen that and it's not too bad but it strays from the original story...a lot

Yep, a lot of the later ones (except 2004) seem to stray...

OH! My dad saw the Lon Chaney one when he was 13. Apperently, it was scary, from waht daddy said , you guys may laugh that I still call my dad daddy, I just like to. OK, so all the boys dared each other to watch it. They were all saying how they all were n't gonna scream.....
After they came out, my daddy was the only one who didn't scream....lol
