Would it still be the same?
Do you think that Phantom of the Opera would still be the same (as popular and likeable) if it hadn't been refilmed with current technology?

Re: Would it still be the same?
No, I don't think that it would be very popular at all because people would only be able to watch the older versions and read the book. Both of which were written/filmed a long time ago.

Re: Would it still be the same?
I agree because when the book first came out it sold pretty well, and the movies were undoubtedly fairly popular when they first came out too, but when compared to today's films they don't look amazing.

Re: Would it still be the same?
Yea, in some of the older movies I have seen, it looked either really corny or as if the actors weren't good at acting. Most of time they were actually really good actors it just appears that way because there was so much less technology so it was much harder to make a film.

Re: Would it still be the same?
I don't think it would have been the same. Even the stage play still going on....the music sounds like it did 20 years ago.....it's just so.....theatrical. The recent movie is so much better, IMO, because they had a full orchestra like Andrew Lloyd Webber has always dreamt of, the sets are much bigger and more beautiful for the film.....especially with the lair....they had a bigger area to work than just a stage. And they could actually show the whole journey rather than what they did in the play. Plus, it boosted the careers of a couple rising stars!!

Re: Would it still be the same?
Yeah and also if they made any mistakes in the movie, the whole audience didn't see them and have that to ruin the performance, like what could happen in the play. I just really like the movie soundtrack better than any music I have heard from plays.

Me too. The casting was so much BETTER for the movie....truly these actors became the characters, correctly portrayed.....bravissimi.

Re: Would it still be the same?
Have you all seen the one with Robert Englund? Compare him with Gerard Butler. 'Nuff said there. I hate to say it but you can have one story told with two actors and it'll sell more with the hot guy. Sex sells. While I love POTO, I also liked this movie for the eye candy. So I'm just as guilty (though not quite as shallow) as a tween obsessed with how "hott" a guy is, yet I'd rather look at Gerard than Freddy Kruger!
